Vigoleno • medieval fortified village

Overview

Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club

Vigoleno, a hamlet of the Municipality of Vernasca, is a small medieval village where the atmosphere of the time has remained unchanged. Here, history seems to have stopped in the days of armed knights and archers, ladies in costume and squires in velvet jackets and tights.

It is the castle that is the absolute star of this village. It first belonged to the Scotti, a family of Piacenza nobility dedicated to banking and markets. In the 1920s, it passed to Princess Ruspoli de Gramont, who turned it into a type of intellectual coterie, inviting painters, musicians, writers and poets, including D'Annunzio, Bacchelli and Cocteau.

Passing under two gates and an archway, you enter the village, where the beautiful church of San Giorgio, an ancient parish seat, stands out.

A typical product isvin santo, with a delicate taste that, in addition to the classic cantucci and dry biscuits, can also accompany the tasty cheeses and typical Piacenza cold cuts.
