Overview
The historic centre of Imola will come alive with games, laughter and colours at the Fantaveicoli Carnival on 15 February.
In the 1900s, Imola was known as "the city of madmen" (due to the presence of two psychiatric hospitals), and perhaps a certain amount of “madness” and eccentricity has been passed on to the people of Imola. Imola is part of Romagna and, like the Romagna people, has a passion for technical ingenuity and invention. Imola is famous worldwide for its racetrack, but there is also a strong love for bicycles, a faithful companion every day.
From these elements, and with an eye to environmental sustainability, since 1998, the Carnival has taken on its current form, becoming the Carnival of Fantaveicoli.
What is a Fantaveicolo? When imagination, creativity, ingenuity and irony meet, a Fantavieicolo is born.
Bicycles, wheelbarrows or other commonly used vehicles are transformed, and each Fantaveicolo has a distinctive theme.
Another unique feature of the Fantasy Vehicle Carnival is that anyone can take part in the parade as a protagonist with a fantasy vehicle or by creating a masked group.
The parade, featuring floats and masked groups, will start from the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Racetrack and arrive in Piazza Matteotti for the big party.
But the Carnival does not end there; in addition to the competition and parade of masked groups, the Children's and Teenagers' Carnival, workshops for the little ones, and photographic exhibitions enrich the atmosphere of celebration and fun throughout the city.
