Badolo

Overview

Badolo is a tiny hamlet of Sasso Marconi, known as a waypoint along the Via degli Dei (Path of the Gods). It also has a fortress now used as a climbing wall and a unique tavern, Hosteria della Rocca di Badolo, serving authentic local food. It's also the gateway to the Pliocenic Rampart Nature Reserve. Many people don't know that just past the tavern, you can see the Colombario di Monte del Frate, a deep cave with two large apertures and lots of little alcoves, dug by hand. It is thought that this was once an Etruscan or Roman burial ground, or a place used to breed pigeons
