Ischia Porto

Overview

Nightlife, beautiful beaches and historic monuments

Ischia is the eighth largest island in Italy and is divided into two wonderful resorts: Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte, separated only by a stretch of road. Ischia Porto, as the name suggests, is home to the island's main port and is also its vibrant centre, always buzzing with activity thanks to the many famous restaurants, lively bars and clubs, shops catering for all tastes, and tourist agencies.

Originally, the port of Ischia was a lake known as the Lago de’ Bagni. In 1854, Ferdinand II decided to open the lake to become a port, an event that is relived in the third week of September with the Festa del Porto, during which you will see the arrival of Frederick II with his dolphin.

In Ischia Porto you'll also find some of the biggest, most beautiful and sandiest beaches in the Gulf of Naples: the crystal-clear water is clean and perfect for adults and children alike. The best beaches are the Lido, the Fishermen's Beach, the Bay of Cartaromana and the English Beach.

Walking through the beautiful streets of Porto Ischia, you'll see stately buildings, churches, majestic gateways, elaborate arches and landmarks like the Bishopric, the Cathedral and the imposing Aragonese Castle, built in 1441 on a pre-existing fortification.
