Capo Trionto

Overview

A symbol of the past awaiting new life

Strolling through Corigliano-Rossano as far as the Ionian coast in Foresta, near the mouth of the Trionto river, you'll come across the impressive Capo Trionto lighthouse. It still stands proud, albeit long forgotten, with its imposing structure dating back to 1923, now overgrown with wild reeds and bushes.

Composed of five buildings covering an area of over 2,600 square metres, at the base of the lighthouse is the caretaker's house, a tool storeroom and an oven for making bread. With a breathtaking view of the Ionian Sea, this structure features a distinctive and original shape compared to other lighthouses dotted along the Ionian coast. In fact, it has a wide base further enlarged by the access steps and a slender progression that tends to narrow as it reaches the top.

At the top of the lighthouse, the cabin and the cantilevered view deck with an iron railing are still almost intact. Abandoned to its fate, slightly corroded by the salt air and overgrown by vegetation, it remains a fascinating attraction that will soon know new life: two million euros have been allocated for its renovation and improvement, as part of a biomarine park and cultural hub.
