San Mauro Forte

Overview

San Mauro Forte stands in a panoramic position, amidst beautiful olive trees, vineyards and hills arranged like an amphitheatre along the course of the Salandrella river. A village of sincere hospitality, the best time to discover it is during its traditional events. A must-see is the Carnival, with its Campanacci parade, a propitiatory rite that invokes relief from ill health and an abundance of harvests. But also the Easter rite of the representation of death with the re-enactment of the Stations of the Cross is a very significant moment, ending with the faithful going to the fields and depositing wheat shoots, as a pledge for an abundant harvest. And finally, the Marian cult, which takes place in the little church of Our Lady of 'Piano di Campo' where the statue of Our Lady of Succour is venerated, amidst strong spirituality and timeless gestures.
