Overview
Now in its 15th edition, the sacred, theatrical representation of the birth of Jesus returns to the picturesque Sassi di Matera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Repeating a tried-and-tested formula, once again this year the performance will be held in the ancient districts, against the backdrop of the typical caves of Matera.
Visitors can follow a planned itinerary leading to the five stations where “living paintings” act out the main episodes of Jesus’ birth: Annunciation, Visitation, Sanhedrin, Massacre of the Innocents and Nativity.
From 7th December to 5th January, various cultural, artistic and gastronomic events and organised tours will bring the city centre to life, setting the stage for the sacred performance of the Living Nativity Scene.
