Lago di Scanno

Overview

A natural pearl in the heart of Abruzzo

Anyone looking for a romantic, unique location far from the beaten tourist track in the Bel Paese can count on Lake Scanno. A natural basin nestled among the Marsicani mountains in Abruzzo, it is the perfect destination for couples looking for incredible spots where they can declare their undying love for one another.

The Sentiero del Cuore hiking trail, which starts from the shores of the lake, will lead you to the vantage point known as the Osservatorio del Cuore (Heart Observatory), offering unique views of Lake Scanno, which, thanks to a special effect of perspective, looks as though it is shaped like a heart.

However, finding the perfect location to take fantastic photos is not the only reason to visit the lake. Along your walk, you will come across the Hermitage of Sant’Egidio, a small, Romanesque-style, rural church that is home to a large fresco honouring the saint.

Nature excursions and bicycle and mountain bike trails also make Lake Scanno area a true paradise for sports enthusiasts. Trails such as the Gran Fondo degli Stazzi route are hugely popular among expert cyclists, but even beginners can easily reach places such as Bisegna, Pescasseroli and Anversa degli Abruzzi.
