Cerchio

Overview

A small village in Abruzzo's Marsica region, Cerchio has ancient roots and its history is linked to a legend. It is said that the first houses were built around a theatre built by the Romans to celebrate the coronation of Emperor Claudius after he had Lake Fucino drained in 51 AD. Around the village, the landscape stretches out greenly until it rises into the reliefs that accompany the horizon line. Not to be missed is the Civic Museum, which preserves evidence of local history: here are housed the artefacts of the peasant civilization and trades, sacred art and ethnography, in a material and exciting account of this territory and its people.
