From waxes on wood to meticulous etchings: a journey through felt landscapes and Chagallian figures
Vico Calabrò is a painter capable of transmitting his inexhaustible joie de vivre, his gratitude for the profession he has chosen and practises in response to an authentic vocation, through his unmistakable style, his grotesque, playful, ethereal, romantic characters, and his landscapes infused with lyricism, immersed in dreamlike atmospheres.
Born in Agordo in 1938 and resident in Caldogno (VI), Vico Calabrò's relationship with the city of Feltre began in 1971, when he was called there by the gallery owner Gino Possiedi to create the series of lithographs of Feltre, inspired by the stories and events of Feltre taken from various sources.
That very close bond with the city continued over the years with the frescoes painted in the Sanctuary of the Holy Martyrs Victor and Corona in 1975 and gradually with the countless works on Feltre subjects and the wall paintings with which he scattered the buildings in the area, both inside and outside.
The Agordino artist then painted capitals with sacred subjects and fragments of surrounding walls.
Calabrò is a recognised master of the buon fresco technique: he has trained a host of students in various courses, has been part of study commissions on the subject, and is a key figure in the "Casa degli affreschi" Study Centre in Facen di Pedavena and in the International School for the Fresco Technique in Feltre.
In the rooms of the Rizzarda Gallery, it will be possible to admire over 160 works by this multifaceted artist.
