Church of St James (Issime)

Overview

The exhibition facility, which is accessible to visitors with disabilities, is located inside the Church of St Lorenzo, formerly the parish building of the Bourg until 1793. It is possible to visit the archaeological excavations of an early Christian funeral basilica dating back to the 5th century, destroyed in the 8th century and replaced in the following century by a smaller church, also dedicated to St Lorenzo. During the 11th-12th and 15th-16th centuries it was enlarged and remodelled, as evidenced by the ogive side portal, while in the 17th century the orientation of the apse was changed and the porch was built. Today, the church hosts exhibitions dedicated to Valdostan handicrafts and artistic production.
