Overview
The spa town of Merano
The second city in Alto Adige after Bolzano, Merano lies at the point of convergence of three valleys: the Passiria, Venosta andAdige, and enjoys an unusually mild climate.
Thanks to the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, known as Sissi, and with her the nobility and intellectuals of Europe, Merano became a famous spa holiday destination.
Many of the luxury hotels and residences in the town date back to the late 19th century, built in the art nouveau style in vogue at the time. They include some of the finest examples of architecture to be found anywhere in the Alps, such as the Pavillon des Fleurs, the Kurhaus and the Puccini Theatre.
Spas and wellness treatments in Merano's historic centre
By contrast, a masterpiece of contemporary design, seamlessly integrated into the townscape is the cube made of steel, glass and timber that houses the town's thermal baths complex, Terme di Merano. With 25 pools, both inside and outdoors in the spa park, which covers five hectares of tree-lined lawn, an elegant sauna and state-of-the-art spa this is the perfect place to indulge in exclusive treatments hard to find elsewhere, such as the malt and hops peeling, warm herb massages and buttermilk baths, a favourite of the empress Sissi.
