San Foca

Overview

A fishing village and beautiful beaches

San Foca is one of the most picturesque places in Salento, in Puglia. The small fishing village, the beautiful beaches and the colour of the sea have enchanted travellers for centuries. Don't miss Torre Sant'Andrea and its wild coastline among stacks, caves and coves.

Just north of San Foca is Torre Specchia Ruggeri with golden sand, crystal sea and all the wind you could want if you love kite surfing. Not far away is the Cesine Natural Park, a WWF oasis to visit at sunset.

If you're travelling with the whole family, the fine sandy beaches of Torre dell'Orso are perfect. Close to the coast are a beautiful pine forest and a 16th century defensive tower. If you love snorkelling, dive among the rocks and islets of Fontanelle beach. Other beaches not to be missed are those of the Brigantini, the Asce Islands and San Basilio.

After the morning at the sea, enjoy a walk through the alleys of the village and taste the octopus which is prepared in a thousand ways here: fried, in balls, roasted or alla pignata. At the end of July in San Foca, the feast of the Madonna del Mare is celebrated, which the fishermen carry in procession on the water: an unmissable opportunity to breathe in the local culture.
