Mola di Bari

Overview

The life and traditions of Mola di Bari have always carried with them the trace of the sea, which has sculpted the city, forged gestures, woven stories and legends. The depth of this bond is evident as soon as you enter the historic centre, guarded by the imposing defensive walls and their towers, where intricate alleyways lead to the Angevin Castle, which was built precisely as a defensive fortress, with the fundamental task of protecting the city from the dangers coming from the sea: pirate attacks. But the sea is also the protagonist of city life today: with its fishing fleet, Mola di Bari is the province's second-largest navy and one of the most important in the entire Adriatic, with its endless exchanges, ships departing and arriving, voices speaking languages from all over the world and knots that unite this land, by sea, with the other peoples of the Mediterranean. Finally, the sea is also the focus of traditional festivals, such as the Festa della Madonna d'Altomare and the Sagra del Polpo, moments of great charm and fascination.
