Overview
On the top of a hill, towering over the morainic landscape around Ivrea, you see the grand aristocratic residence of Masino Castle and Park, which for centuries belonged to the Counts Valperga di Masino and is now owned by the FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano, which manages its openings and a fine programme of events.
What astonishes travellers from all over the world is both the interior structure of the castle, which retains sumptuous original furnishings, and the park, adorned with lush vegetation, where an intricate labyrinth designed with thousands of hornbeam plants, meticulously modelled by gardeners, stands out.
Prestigious members of the diplomacy and aristocracy stayed in the richly frescoed and decorated flats of the palace, to which is added the jewel in the crown of the visit: an immense library of ancient books.
