Overview
A small jewel in the heart of the Monferrato Casalese, in the province of Alessandria, Ozzano Monferrato is situated in a panoramic position, with a little-beaten historical centre, cosy with the houses perched on the hill and 'dominated' by the church and castle. The town lies between the plains and the hills of Monferrato cultivated with vineyards, which can be discovered with pleasant walks, either on foot or by bicycle. In the Lavello area, moreover, there is a rich heritage of industrial archaeology touched by a network of local and regional trails that recall a mining past also recounted by the small 'Cavatore' museum. In 2015, Ozzano was included among the nine municipalities in the Core Zone of the UNESCO site "Piedmont's winegrowing landscapes" as part of "Il Monferrato degli Infernot", "chambers" dug underground and used to store wine. Local gastronomic and craft traditions include biciulant d'ausan, an Easter sweet, and tatting embroidery.
