Serralunga di Crea

Overview

The starting point for discovering artwork at the Sacro Monte di Crea

The small municipality of Serralunga di Crea, a few kilometres from Alessandria, is the perfect starting point for discovering the Sacro Monte di Crea, one of the Sacri Monti of Piedmont and Lombardy recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003.

A pilgrimage destination since the 11th century, the route starts at the gates of the town and winds its way uphill, with 23 stops along the way as you pass through Serralunga di Crea and climb to the top of one of the highest hills in Monferrato. Twenty-three chapels and five hermitages accompany pilgrims and hikers along the route to the so-called “Paradise Chapel” at the very top of the hill.

Art and nature come together to offer visitors to Sacro Monte di Crea an experience they will never forget, with statues, frescoes and paintings dating from 1589 onwards. All this, immersed in the wonders of this area of Piedmont, full of oak and ash forests and with uniquely beautiful views.
