Overview
Venarotta, a small village in the Marche region located in the Marche Apennines, is situated between the valleys of the Fluvione river and the Chiaro torrent. Characteristic is the presence of gullies, a phenomenon caused by soil erosion due to water runoff.
The name Venarotta undoubtedly derived from the Latin word vena, quarry, is evidenced by the large presence of stone that enriches and decorates the town.
The historical centre is rich in monuments and museums. Don't miss the Church of San Salvatore, the 13th-century Abbey of San Francesco with its beautifully restored cloister, the Church of the Madonna del Cardinale, with its original octagonal structure.
Also worth a visit is the Sanctuary of Addolorata in the hamlet of Gimigliano, built in a place considered miraculous due to repeated Marian apparitions.
