Petritoli (FM)

Overview

Petritoli is a hilly municipality in the province of Fermo that dominates the green and fertile Aso valley, of which it is an important economic centre due to its wealth of olive trees, mulberry trees and hills. The village offers an incredible view that sweeps from the Sibillini Mountains to the Adriatic coast. It is accessed through a gateway composed of three Gothic arches enclosed between two 15th-century cylindrical towers. The Teatro dell'Iride, today one of the Marche Region's Historical Theatres, and religious buildings such as the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Liberata, the Church of Santa Maria dei Martiri, and the Church of Santa Maria in Piazza are without doubt worth visiting. Among the hamlets of Petritoli worthy of note are Moregnano, with its characteristic historic centre, and Valmir, a hamlet particularly vocated to agriculture, as well as crafts and trade.
