Pesaro pays tribute to one of its most representative protagonists with the exhibition "Ferruccio Mengaroni (1875-1925) – The genius of ceramics", organised on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the artist's birth and the centenary of his death. A multi-venue exhibition involving two symbolic locations in the city, the Palazzo Mosca Civic Museums and the CAME – Ceramiche Artistiche Mengaroni, with an itinerary dedicated to Pesaro majolica.
A multifaceted figure and an original talent, Mengaroni reinterprets Renaissance history, drawing inspiration from the city's historical collections. A turner, kiln operator and painter, he studied the techniques of majolica between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, even going so far as to reproduce the complex metallic reflections of the old masters.
The exhibition brings together over a hundred works, mostly from the Civic Museums and private collections. Among these, a particularly significant group is the collection of 176 ceramics acquired by the Municipality of Pesaro in 1937 and kept in the museum since 1938.
At the Civic Museums, the exhibition is enriched with materials that also tell the story of the artist's modern vision. Next to the ceramics, the historical catalogue of the Fabbrica Mengaroni is on display, along with majolica pendant brooches and advertising postcards from the 1920s, evidence of innovative communication.
The exhibition also includes a symbolic element: the majolica tondo with the Medusa, under the weight of which Mengaroni lost his life in 1925, now located in the atrium of Palazzo Mosca.
At the CAME, the museum of the Artistic Secondary School named after the ceramist, a number of artefacts from his workshop are on display, including vases in the Zaffera style and works inspired by the eighteenth-century production of Urbania, reworked with figures taken from the comedy of art.
The exhibition is completed by a contemporary tribute with works by the designer Marco Morosini.
In May, the exhibition is accompanied by a calendar of initiatives that enrich the itinerary. On 15 and 29 May, the series of events dedicated to the artist continues, while from 21 to 31 May, the Galleria Rossini hosts the exhibition "Sguardi su Ferruccio Mengaroni", promoted by the Amici della Ceramica di Pesaro.
On the occasion of Buongiorno Ceramica (23–24 May 2026), there will be special openings of the CAME and the workshops of the Mengaroni Art School, as well as events in the Civic Museums and the city's museum system.
