Castelleone di Suasa

Overview

Surrounded by a flat landscape of rolling hills, Castelleone di Suasa is a village that has preserved its Roman origins, enclosed in an archaeological park of great historical and cultural value. Downstream from the medieval castle, in fact, in the locality of Pian Volpello, are the remains of the Roman municipality of Suasa, including the ancient paved road, the forum, two burial areas, the amphitheatre and, above all, the Domus dei Coiedii, a rich patrician dwelling that represents the most fascinating attraction of the entire archaeological park. Together with the park, the archaeological museum contributes to telling this ancient story: located in the Della Rovere Renaissance palace, it contains, like a timeless treasure, statues, epigraphs and materials found during excavation campaigns.
