Discovering the original Torta Paradiso
Torta Paradiso is an iconic part of Pavia’s confectionery tradition, but over time it has become a delicacy that can be enjoyed in many other parts of Italy. If you want to savour the original recipe, however, there’s only one place to go: the old Pasticceria Vigoni, in the heart of Pavia.
Located in an elegant Art Nouveau building on Strada Nuova, opposite the main entrance to the University, the Pasticceria Vigoni opened in 1878 and has been following the original recipe perfected by Enrico Vigoni and handed down from generation to generation. Torta Paradiso (Paradise Cake) is undoubtedly the jewel in the crown of this top-quality pastry shop, but among the vintage counters and the original lighting from the early 20th century, you can find everything: from shortcrust pastries and puff pastries, to all kinds of brioche, gelato and chocolate, as well as biscuits and savoury pastries.
For a tasty stop during a day exploring Pavia, Pasticceria Vigoni is a must, even if you just get a coffee and a croissant.
