Overview
Orange Flag of the Touring Club Italiano
Located in the heart of the Val Seriana, Clusone combines its wealth of monuments with significant natural beauty. The Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta dominates the town, with its dramatic staircase and numerous works inside. Across from it stands the Oratory of the Disciplines, famous for its precious frescoes, including the most important one, the Triumph of Death and Dance of the Dead, the only one in Europe to feature all three themes of Death. The Town Hall from the 15th century overlooks Piazza dell'Orologio, named after the Planetary Clock (or Fanzago Clock) on the town hall tower. This clock, with its simple and ingenious mechanism, marks the hours, months, days, the duration of day and night, zodiac signs, lunar phases, and the length of the moon's cycle with a single hand.
Other treasures to see in the historic center include the Church of Paradise, the Church of St. Anna, the Church of St. Defendente, and numerous frescoes still visible on the buildings of the town center. Don’t miss the Arte e Tempo Museum, located inside the Palazzo Marinoni Barca.
The surroundings of Clusone are ideal for walks and breathtaking views. Notable trails include those leading to the Fontanino della Mamma or Monte Cimiero, or the one leading to the top of Colle Crosio, or, for the more adventurous, those of San Lucio. For a relaxing picnic, there’s the Clusone Pine Forest, a beautiful forest with high landscape value. To sweeten your visit, you can taste the typical Biscotto di Clusone, made with almonds and chocolate, created and produced since 1920.
Visitors to the area can certainly enjoy their time by tasting the typical Biscotto di Clusone, made with almonds and chocolate, invented and produced since 1920 by the Trussardi Patisserie, now run by the young Martina Oprandi.
