The Gnome’s Wood in the village of Zone

Overview

Wood carvings of animals and magical creatures

Just under an hour from the centre of Brescia, you can immerse yourself in an enchanted wood, surrounded by gnomes, bears, wolves, hares and cats. The Gnome’s Wood is a place on Lake Iseo drawn straight from a fairy tale. It is a fantastic walk for adults and children, along which you can admire 44 wooden sculptures by local artist Luigi Zatti, nicknamed “Il Rosso”. The works of art represent magical creatures, including the love-struck gnome, protective mother bear, friendly fox and elegant golden eagle.

The route, which is suitable for inexperienced hikers, starts just outside the village of Zone. You can park your car in Goi de la Tromba-Polset and follow the signs for trail 227 on foot. Within minutes, you’ll find yourself catapulted into this magical place on the slopes of Monte Guglielmo. After your walk, you can enjoy the picnic area and refresh yourself under the watchful eye of the fairy-tale characters carved by Il Rosso.
