Overview
Along the Apennine watershed between Abruzzo and Lazio, between the province of L'Aquila and that of Frosinone, extends one of the most suggestive road crossings in Italy: Forca d 'Acero.
In addition to connecting the municipalities of Opi and San Donato Val di Comino, this spectacular pass becomes in summer the starting point for a series of excursions and in winter the favorite place for winter sports, cross-country skiing in the first place. It is a destination also loved by motorcyclists, who enjoy the many corners in continuous succession, and by cyclists: it is no coincidence that its ascent four times was the protagonist of the Giro d 'Italia.
The main gateway to the Abruzzo National Park, located 1538 meters above sea level, Forca d 'Acer owes its name to the presence of an incredible amount of centuries-old maples, which together with oak and beech trees transform the town into a kaleidoscope of colors.
In such a setting it will be a pleasure to stop in the equipped area, in a vast plateau surrounded by uncontaminated woods, refresh yourself at the Refuge and enjoy the exquisite local culinary offer.
