The House of St Thomas in Roccasecca: the house that was never his
In the medieval village of Roccasecca there is a building known as the Casa di San Tommaso (House of St Thomas), an essential stop when exploring the historic centre. But the secret that locals already know is that despite the name and an inscription above the entrance arch, the famous saint was not born here. The house is a fascinating piece of medieval architecture, in particular a rare double-arched window.
The mystery behind the inscription
The name originates from an epigraph still visible today, carved above the monumental pointed arch. There one can read the name "Tho(mas)", but it most likely refers to a prominent namesake who lived there at a later date.
What to look for: the medieval windows
The building is a substantial structure, to which elements were added over time. On the façade there is a simple window with a single ogival arch, and above all a magnificent trilobed double-arched window.
The house can be seen from the outside. It is located in the medieval village, and is freely accessible during a leisurely stroll.
