Parco Corrado Nicolini in Capranica: a Green Space With a Family Story Behind It
Corrado Nicolini Public Park is located just outside the historic centre of Capranica, with entrances from Viale Nardini and Via Alcide De Gasperi, and is one of the town’s ‘green lungs’. Behind the name lies a story: Corrado Nicolini (1885–1946) was the Capranica landowner who introduced the hazelnut tree (nocciolo, Corylus avellana) as a crop in the Viterbo area, and in the 1930s and 1940s he oversaw the landscaping of the EUR district, the Foro Italico and Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome. The park was championed by his son Pier Luigi, who created it and dedicated it to his father as an act of remembrance. A private dedication that became a space for all.
A park that never stands still
Besides its benches, well-tended trees and adjoining playground, the Nicolini park has hosted book presentations, events for the Giornata della Memoria (Holocaust Remembrance Day) and the InformaGiovani youth information service, with Oak Point serve as a guidance hub for young people aged 14 to 35. The Municipality keeps it fully accessible, without architectural barriers, and in 2025 completed a new round of tree-safety works and bench replacements.
It is the kind of park where you actually spend a lot of time: large enough for a walk, lively enough that there is always something going on. And with a story behind it that is well worth discovering.
