In Sauris, a unique place shaped by its history and ancient traditions, Carnival is an especially evocative event.
What makes this traditional celebration distinctive are the wooden masks and the typical costumes, imaginatively created using all kinds of materials and garments found at home or in attics.
As evening falls, the procession of masks and spectators, led by the two main figures, the Rölar and the Kheirar, sets off on a suggestive night-time walk through the forest, lit by lanterns. From Sauris di Sopra, the procession reaches Sauris di Sotto, where the festivities continue with music, dancing and local food.
