Overview
Castelli Aperti is the cultural initiative organised by the Consortium for the Preservation of the Historical Castles of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, created with the aim of enhancing and making accessible the historical and architectural heritage of the region's castles and fortifications.
Perched on green hills overlooking the Gulf of Trieste, immersed in centuries-old parks, or located in the heart of historic towns, the castles of Friuli-Venezia Giulia are steeped in history, art, and tradition. Fascinating places that were once noble residences, defensive bastions, and symbols of power.
Two unmissable Open Castles events are held during the year: one in Spring and one in Autumn. These special days offer a unique opportunity to explore public castles and private residences, which are usually closed to the public, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in an authentic and unforgettable experience.
The initiative is organised for individual visitors, history buffs and cultural tourism enthusiasts, and for those seeking to discover the most beautiful castles in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Beyond the great gates lie magnificent gardens, halls rich in art, historical furnishings, and memories of times gone by.
At the stairs of the medieval castles, visitors may be welcomed directly by the owners, who are exceptional guides, or by professional tour guides. An exciting journey that takes you back in time to discover a hidden historical heritage in an evocative and timeless atmosphere.
