An itinerary to San Mauro Pascoli, from the hinterland to the sea, to discover the places that were of inspiration to Giovanni Pascoli. This land, between the rivers Uso and Rubicon, the Via Emilia and the sea, is actually the birthplace of the famous poet, the place where he was born and where he spent his childhood.

The long history of the town of San Mauro is also linked to the poet in its name, modified in his honour from San Mauro to San Mauro Pascoli in 1932 by Royal Decree.

Casa Pascoli Museum

Casa Pascoli Museum

Our tour begins in the heart of the town, where we meet the eighteenth-century Municipal Palace, in front of which is the former oratory of San Sebastiano, a tiny building dating back to the eighteenth century, now used as an exhibition hall by the Accademia Pascoliana. The walk continues towards the chapel of the Madonna dell'Acqua which houses two tombstones dedicated to the Fallen. A few steps away is the Casa Pascoli Museum, a national monument since 1924, the building where Giovanni Pascoli was born on 31 December 1855. Inside you can visit, besides the kitchen, the studio where rare editions of some of his works and many handwritten letters sent to friends are on display, plus the bedroom with the ancient wooden cradle. Outside you can admire the garden with some of the plants mentioned by the poet in his poems and the bronze bust in his honour.

Villa Torlonia

Villa Torlonia

Our tour continues to Villa Torlonia where, from the 18th century to the mid-19th century, the Princes of Torlonia founded one of the most important and extensive large estates in Romagna. Here the poet's father, Ruggero Pascoli, administered the possessions of Prince Alessandro Torlonia. We recommend a visit to the new multimedia museum that will immerse you in the poetry of Pascolia in a path full of excitement: the cellars of the Tower are transformed into multisensory environments where sounds, words and images embrace all your senses.

San Mauro Mare

San Mauro Mare

Just 7 km from San Mauro Pascoli, you can reach San Mauro Mare, a pretty seaside town surrounded by the greenery of the Pascolian countryside. Here you can enjoy a delicious break, savouring the excellence of the region, such as fresh fish from the Adriatic and typical products of the Rubicon Valley, all accompanied by the delicious piadina romagnola and an excellent glass of Sangiovese.
On the road along the beach of San Mauro Mare, you can admire two permanent exhibitions: "The Games of Once Upon a Time" on the Pascoli promenade and the photographic exhibition "12 Steps Back", a real leap into the past.

Parco Don Ivo Rossi

Parco Don Ivo Rossi

A few steps away from the beach of San Mauro Mare is the Don Ivo Rossi Park, a green space that covers 20,000 square metres, full of paths suitable for everyone. Children can have fun in the area equipped with the most modern wooden games and, when the season allows, you can also take advantage of the park for a snack or a picnic in the shade of the great poplars.

Stefano Campana Park

Stefano Campana Park

We finish the itinerary arriving at the Parco Stefano Campana, with its 2,500 square metres, where you can discover the permanent exhibition dedicated to the architect Stefano Campana. Bronze boats, oil drawings, watercolours and dry ends are just some of the works on display.
