San Marco

Overview

A hamlet of the municipality of Castellabate, San Marco is its outlet on the sea, as well as the location of its port, a place where the vital frenzy of the town is still enclosed, amidst boats leaving and boats arriving, the calls of fishermen and sailors and the flight of seagulls. The town developed around the ancient Greek-Roman port and today the remains of that port are still visible, material narratives of a very ancient history linked to the sea. San Marco is also inserted in an area of extreme beauty: it is part of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park and its coastline is included in the Santa Maria di Castellabate Marine Protected Area and is characterized by a succession of rocks, high cliffs, natural coves and beaches.
