In Taurianova, art takes shape on the pavement and transforms the streets into a shared story. From 31 July to 2 August 2026, the International Madonnari Competition – City of Taurianova returns for its eleventh edition, now a key event for street art artists and enthusiasts.
Over the course of three days, more than 50 madonnari from Italy and abroad will create a veritable open-air gallery, producing ephemeral works using coloured chalk. This ancient, popular art form is brought back to life every year, combining technique, spirituality and contemporary storytelling.
The theme of the 2026 edition, ‘The world through human eyes: between the sacred and the lived’, invites us to reflect on the present from a perspective that focuses on people, connections and everyday life. The works thus become visual narratives that intertwine faith, memory and reality, offering the public an engaging and accessible experience.
Organised by the Amici del Palco Association and directed by Antonella Larosa, the competition is not just an artistic event, but also an opportunity for people to come together and share experiences. Visitors will be able to watch the works being created live, talk to the artists, and experience the town centre in a participatory way.
