Overview
A small treasure in the green heart of Umbria
Just a stone’s throw from Spoleto, in the Umbrian countryside, you can discover one of the seven jewels of Lombard art and architecture in Italy, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011. We’re talking about the Tempietto sul Clitunno, a small church built as a Corinthian temple with four columns on which the entablature and pediment rest. The Tempietto, built between the 4th and 5th centuries on a high stone podium, is surrounded by ancient cypress trees that contribute to making this place even more magical and evocative.
It is impossible to end your visit without admiring your reflection in the nearby Fonti del Clitunno, the springs of the river of the same name, whose crystal-clear waters, over the centuries, have left poets such as Pliny, Virgil, Byron and Carducci speechless. In this natural paradise, you can relax among poplars and weeping willows reflected in the waters of the pond, small waterfalls, bridges and well-marked paths, for an outing perfect for the whole family.
