Castelfranco Piandiscò

Overview

Castelfranco Piandiscò is a newly-formed village, which arose a few years ago from the merger of Castelfranco di Sopra and Pian di Scò. To discover the beauties that best tell of this town, one must arrive in the main town, Castelfranco di Sopra, driving along the ancient Setteponti road, along which one can admire Romanesque parish churches, farmhouses, tower-houses and small hamlets, to then reach the heart of the village, in search of two Madonnas: one from the school of Andrea del Sarto and the other from the Master of Cassone Adimari (known as lo Scheggia). Meanwhile, all around, the land that embraces the village draws unusual and evocative landscapes, with its crags created by erosion in the midst of which the green patches of the gorges spring up: the panorama here becomes so magical that it is known as the 'fairy landscape'. This alternation of colours and shapes is so special that it is even said to have inspired the backgrounds of Leonardo da Vinci's paintings and drawings.
