Feast of Saint Lucy in Siracusa

Overview

From December 9 to 26, 2025, Syracuse will be decked out in faith and tradition to celebrate Saint Lucy, the patron saint of the city, with one of the most heartfelt and well-attended religious events in Sicily.

This year, the festival will be made even more extraordinary by the arrival of the martyr's remains from Venice, a rare and deeply symbolic event that will add intensity and solemnity to the celebrations.

The heart of the festival will be the procession on December 13, during which the statue and relics of Saint Lucy will pass through the streets of the historic center, from the Cathedral of Ortigia to the Basilica of Saint Lucy at the Sepulcher, accompanied by thousands of faithful and pilgrims.

On December 14, the arrival of the remains will be welcomed with a celebration in the Basilica Santuario della Madonna delle Lacrime, followed by another procession. The relics will then remain on display in the Cathedral until December 26, before leaving for other Sicilian towns that venerate the Saint.

In addition to solemn liturgies and moments of prayer, there will be cultural events, concerts, exhibitions, and historical insights dedicated to the figure of the Syracusan martyr, who embodied the courage of faith and charity towards the weakest.

The Feast of Saint Lucy in Syracuse is a spiritual and identity-building experience that involves the whole community, restoring the most authentic meaning of Christmas in Baroque Sicily.
