Overview
On July 26, 2025, Castelbuono will once again host one of the most anticipated sporting events of the Sicilian summer: the International Running Race, also known as “La Cursa di Sant’Anna”. Established in 1912, this race is now one of the longest-running and most prestigious in Europe, attracting some of the best athletes from the international scene every year. The competition takes place on the day dedicated to Sant’Anna, the patron saint of the town, combining the sporting spirit with religious and popular tradition. The course, 11.34 km long, consists of ten laps of a 1,134-meter city circuit, winding through the charming streets of the historic center, with both start and finish in Piazza Margherita. The race is famous for the technical difficulty of the course: challenging climbs, fast descents, and tight turns test the athletes’ endurance and strategy, creating an exciting spectacle for the crowds that fill the streets in a festive atmosphere. Alongside the main competition, the Giro is enriched with side events that involve the entire community: from the “Baby Run” for young runners to the fun “Vintage Race”, where participants wear period costumes, paying tribute to the historical spirit of the event. |
The Castelbuono Running Race is not just about sport, but an experience of local culture, heritage, and hospitality. It’s a perfect opportunity to visit one of the most charming villages in the Madonie region, surrounded by art, nature, and the authentic flavors of Sicily.
