Cabras

Overview

Located on the west-central coast of Sardinia, Cabras is the heart of the beautiful Sinis peninsula. Centuries-old monuments and an infinite wealth of nature tell the two-thousand-year history of a settlement of ancient origins.

Testimonies of the Neolithic, such as the village of Cuccuru is Arrius and numerous nuraghi form the backdrop to the great archaeological discovery of Mont'e Prama: the statuary complex of the Giants, dating back to the Iron Age (8th century BC), and now partly visible at the archaeological museum of the city.

An essential part of the archaeological tour in the Cabras area is a step back in time in the ancient city of Tharros, founded by the Phoenicians in the 8th century B.C. on an earlier nuragic village. Later becoming Roman urbs,, then Byzantine, the territory of Cabras sums up the history of Sardinia with its complex stratifications.

Overlooking the marine protected area of the Sinis peninsula, with its enchanting beaches and fishy ponds, Cabras is the ideal place for a holiday full of nature and culture.

You cannot leave the city without having admired the fish ponds, the other Cabrari attraction that provides fish of the highest quality, such as mullet, with whose eggs bottarga is produced, the 'Sardinian caviar', which the best restaurants use to enrich their dishes.
