Corsano

Overview

Corsano is a village of stories linked to its names. The first is linked to the name of the village, which seems to mean 'healthy heart', and indeed it is a heart that appears on the civic coat of arms, between two intertwined snakes. The second, on the other hand, recalls the people of Corsica, who are also called 'hardened heels' from the times when, barefoot, they went to collect sea salt on the cliffs and then smuggled the prized 'sea dust'. All that remains, of this history, are the splendid country paths that descend from the village to the sea, ancient sheep-tracks of stone and beaten earth that lead along the salt roads, in the Costa di Otranto - Santa Maria di Leuca Park, a park where the views enchant the eye and the scent of the Mediterranean scrub and saltiness refresh the heart.
