Valperga

Overview

Rediscovering the pleasure of religious tourism

Located in Canavese, Valperga lies on the slopes of the Sacro Monte di Belmonte, one of Piedmont’s seven Sacred Mountains and one of the area’s most interesting attractions. The area where the sanctuary is located with its Stations of the Cross chapels is part of a large reserve of natural, historical and archaeological interest where traces of a Lombard settlement have been found. From the town centre, in the direction of Pertusio, there is a secondary road that leads to the two small Laghetti Azzurri lakes, which are very picturesque, especially in winter when they freeze over.

The Valperga Castle, dating to the 10th century, boasts a fascinating history, characterised by towers surrounding several buildings added over time. In the town, don’t miss the Romanesque Church of San Giorgio, with its terracotta façade, and the parish Church of the Holy Trinity

A few kilometres away, we recommend visiting the Castle of Agliè, a medieval defensive fortress waiting to be discovered. The manor house is surrounded on three sides by a large park, about 320,000 square metres in size, to explore on foot or by bicycle.
