Lake Orta cycle route

Overview

Among villages, beaches and fabulous villas

Set in the hills of Piedmont, Lake Orta lies just a few kilometres from the more famous and grand Lake Maggiore. Despite its small size, it hides gems of rare beauty, including dreamy landscapes, enchanting villages and elegant villas. If you’re wondering what is the best way to explore it, we recommend by bike. Ride along the 40 kilometres of the Blue Route, a cycling path that circumnavigates this stretch of water.

Jump on the saddle at Orta, the starting point of the route and follow the well-marked path. Don't forget to stop to rest and catch your breath, but above all to admire the sights around you. Stop at Omegna, ancient Pella and Orta San Giulio with its island, a true gem in the lake that can be reached with small boats. On the island, visit the women's monastery, the Basilica of San Giulio and the lush gardens.

Soak up the enchanted atmosphere at the Moorish Villa Crespi. Ride on in the shadow of Mottarone that forms a silhouette on the horizon, and treat yourself to a peaceful lake-view at Gozzano beach.
