Overview
One of the oldest Carnival celebrations in Italy, the Fano Carnival has for centuries been among the most emblematic events in the Marche region. Its origins date back to 1347 and, even today, the festival continues to evolve while preserving the rituals and traditions that make it unique on the national scene. The 2026 edition will take place over four Sundays, from 25 January to 15 February, transforming Fano into a vast open-air theatre.
The undisputed stars of the event will be the large papier-mâché allegorical floats, the result of artisanal craftsmanship involving entire communities and, year after year, portraying current events through satire, colour and movement. The parades will make their way along Viale Gramsci, accompanied by music, masks and performances that captivate spectators of all ages.
A defining feature of the Fano Carnival is the famous getto: tonnes of sweets thrown from the floats towards the crowd, a joyful ritual rooted in the city’s history and one that continues to delight both young and old. Alongside the parades, the programme will include side events, shows and activities designed for families, with particular attention to children.
Taking part in the Fano Carnival means experiencing something truly authentic, where popular tradition meets contemporary creativity. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the city at one of the liveliest times of the year, immersed in celebration, community spirit and shared culture.
