Madonna del Piano Church

Initially, on the Colfiorito plateau, along the road from Plestia to St Martin, there was a small shrine marking the crossroads, probably on a pre-existing pagan temple. In the 16th century, the local population built a sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna del Piano under the patronage of the Lateran Basilica and placed in the diocese of Spoleto, under the jurisdiction of Camerino. It was also dependent on the Church of San Salvatore di Acqua Pagana from 1542. From 1950 to 1997, a hermit, Brother Lui, lived in some rooms on the upper floor of the church. The sanctuary was severely damaged in the 1997 earthquake, but was later restored.
