Perched on the ridge separating the Cremone and Ete Morto valleys, Mogliano is a peaceful village surrounded by olive groves and rolling hills that offer evocative views of the Sibillini mountains. In the compact and well-kept centre you will find evidence of the village's ancient history, such as the remains of the old medieval fortifications built by the Da Mogliano lords.
But the true identity of the village lives on, with the tradition of weaving, a skill that for generations has transformed wicker and natural fibres into baskets and everyday objects. The craft is now enjoying a new lease of life thanks to the workshops, ateliers and training centres that have brought Mogliano back to the centre of artisan creativity in Le Marche.
Walking along the main street, you can discover some of the places that tell of the village's rich heritage: for example, the Church of St Gregory the Great with its scenic staircase, the 17th-century Palazzo Forti and the Church of Our Lady of the Square, which houses the famous altarpiece of the Assumption by Lorenzo Lotto, as testimony to the deep bond between the village and the great art of the Renaissance.
Mogliano is a place to be experienced calmly, letting yourself be guided by the details on the buildings, the slow pace of the workshops and the encounters with those who still practise the patient art of weaving.
