Sanctuary of the Santa Casa Lauretana ("Holy House")

Overview

A place of worship used by people from across the Valtellina, the Santa Casa Lauretana in Tresivio, which emerges clearly from the vineyards of Tronchedo Hill, not far from Sondrio, has a long and complex history. The most recent consolidation works were completed as recently as 2011. And it is thanks to this project and the time and effort generously donated by volunteers from the Valtellina cultural heritage association, that the church is now one of the venues for Aperti per Voi ("Open For You"), promoted by the Italian Touring Club to make hard-to-reach cultural attractions more accessible to the public. It is an opportunity for locals and tourists alike to admire the beauty of one of the largest churches in the Valtellina, richly decorated with a majestic Baroque façade in a northern European style. It was built, after a vote by the local community, on a spot that offers maximum visibility. The TCI volunteers will restart the Open For You initiative next summer.
