Overview
Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club
In the territory of the Colline Moreniche del Garda and within the Parco del Mincio, Ponti sul Mincio is dominated by the Scaliger castle, dating from the period between 1260 and 1276. In the historical centre we find the Monument to the Fallen, designed by the same engineer Vittoriale di Gardone Riviera, the Church of Sant'Antonio Abate and the ancient public wash-house, recently restored and still used today by the women of the village. Also worth seeing is the Ardietti fort, part of the Quadrilateral Austrian territorial defence system. The Mincio Park, one of the first to be created in Lombardy, is perfect to discover on foot or by bicycle thanks to the Mantova-Peschiera cycle path or with the excursions proposed periodically.
The traditional cuisine ranges from strangolini, an excellent first course, to local salami and fogassin, a traditional peasant dessert. To accompany, there are the three DOC wines of the Colli Morenici. Events include the Sagra di S. Gaetano (certified in 2019 as a Sagra di Qualità by UNPLI) in early August, the ancient Sagra di San Nicolò in December, and the Maria Zamboni Prize in July.
