San Pellegrino Terme

Overview

Renowned spa resort in the heart of the Brembana Valley

Located in the centre of the Val Brembana and surrounded by the Orobian Pre-Alps, San Pellegrino Terme is a renowned spa resort. It is known across the world for its namesake mineral water, the S. Pellegrino.

The town preserves important testimonies of the Belle Époque, such as the Liberty-style spa. Since its foundation, the centre has been equipped with state-of-the-art facilities in terms of medicine, equipment and organisation. Also worth visiting is the Grand Hotel, whose most illustrious guests include Queens Margaret and Helena of Savoy. From the same period is the Municipal Casino, with its characteristic towers on the façade.

The church dedicated to Saint Pellegrino d'Auxerre dates back to the 18th century. The Church of the Invention of the Holy Cross, in the hamlet of Santa Croce, dates back to the 15th century.

Nearby, we recommend a visit to Harlequin's House, now a museum, in the village of San Giovanni Bianco. The relic of the Holy Thorn, preserved in the parish church, can also be found here.

Trekking enthusiasts will appreciate a trip to the San Marco Pass, one of the most important mountain passes in Lombardy, which connects Bergamo's Val Brembana with Sondrio's Valtellina. Don't miss a visit to Clanezzo, with its castle and bridges, including a suspension bridge spanning the Brembo river.
