Santo Stefano d'Aveto

Overview

Santo Stefano d'Aveto is a mountain village, a place where culture and tradition are coloured by the green of the woods and have the fragrance of typical dishes prepared with simple ingredients linked to the land. Around the village, hills and mountains, a panorama of soft hollows and sharp peaks, a nature that seems untouched by the hand of man. This small village in the Val d'Aveto, whose architecture recounts its medieval past, including ancient churches and the remains of the castle built by the Malaspina family, has always had a close relationship with agriculture and livestock breeding: even today these activities are celebrated with the threshing festival and the transhumance festival, respectively. Even the flavours that can be tasted here are those that come from the land and livestock farming: to be sampled, in fact, are the fragrant mushrooms and San Sté cheese, among the best known and most delicious in the region.
