Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena

Overview

Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club

Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena is the oldest feudal village in the Neva Valley. It is built on a rocky outcrop with a panoramic view. As you pass below the ogival arch, you step into a world that has remained virtually unchanged since the Middle Ages. A dense network of narrow streets and winding alleyways leads to the castle. Built in the 11th century, it was initially a fortress owned by the Clavesana family, later passing to the Del Carretto family. It has also been a military stronghold. Thanks to its panoramic position, you can enjoy a view of the valley below, and the rows of houses in the typical Ligurian style.

From 1300, the town was the domain of the Del Carretto family, before it came under the rule of the Republic of Genoa in the 17th century.
