The sea of Rome, among establishments, Art Nouveau buildings and pristine nature

Lido di Ostia, on the outskirts of the Italian capital, is one of the seaside resorts most easily accessible from the city centre, by car or train. Also known as “the sea of Rome” for this very reason, it is to all intents and purposes one of the neighbourhoods of the Eternal City, developed since the beginning of the 20th century with a specific vocation for tourism. 

The district runs for almost 14 kilometres along the coastline, from the mouth of the River Tiber to Tor Paterno. Over 70 establishments welcome visitors in search of relaxation on the beach, offering everything you could possibly need during your holiday: from beach volleyball courts and beach soccer fields, umbrellas, deckchairs and changing cabins, to beach bars and restaurants and all the necessary equipment for water sports such as surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Set behind the long promenade, the small town centre features Art Nouveau buildings, trendy bars, seafood restaurants and plenty of shops to indulge in a few hours of shopping. 

Further along the Paolo Toscanelli promenade is the lush Castelfusano pine forest and the wildest side of the Roman coastline: the “Cancelli” coastal strip. Here, you can immerse yourself in a 5-kilometre nature oasis, with sand dunes surrounded by Mediterranean scrubland.
