Church of St Peter in Chains in Frasso Sabino: Gothic frescoes in an auditorium
In Frasso Sabino, in the province of Rieti, the Church of San Pietro in Vincoli is a building dating from the early 13th century. It features three aisles, a small apse, and a gabled façade with a quadrilobed oculum, and a portal with a round-arched lunette. It was recently restored by the Soprintendenza ai Beni Architettonici del Lazio (Lazio Region Architectural Heritage Superintendency). In the 17th century the right aisle was walled off, and converted into funerary chapels connected to the adjoining cemetery.
15th-century frescoes
The interior preserves a cycle of 15th-century frescoes featuring three scenes: the Annunciation, the Flight into Egypt, and the Christ Among the Doctors. Today, the church serves as an auditorium for cultural activities.
